EUROPEAN BIOMIMICRY DESIGN CHALLENGE

1.) Background and Values

Why Biomimicry

The love for life itself.

By looking deeply into nature, we can tap into the accumulated wisdom of 3.8 billion years of evolution. Understanding nature’s ways, we can develop sustainable and resilient solutions to humanity’s pressing needs and challenges. For every challenge, may it be connected to energy, water, transportation, urban planning and infrastructure, food systems, health, well-being or psychological change, there is a solution to be found in nature.

Why Europe

Europe itself is an ancient ecosystem of a myriad of intertwined cultural facets and social formations.

Bringing peace to this continent for over 70 years, is one of the major achievements of cross-cultural collaboration in recent history. Europe is the biggest multicultural collaboration experiment in history. It is based on the promise of universal liberty, tolerance and equality. And as other forces in the world strive to out-compete each other, Europe has to find its own way of contributing to the solution of our shared global challenges.

Why now

The European Commission has defined a set of priorities that opens a window of opportunity for us all to promote responsible social and technological innovation.

The European Green Deal aims to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by becoming a circular, resource-efficient economy.

Responsible Innovation will create an economy that works for people through more attractive investment environments, and growth that creates quality jobs, especially for young people and small businesses.

The goal is to strengthen Europe’s voice in the world by championing multilateralism and a rules-based global order while Protect Europe’s rule of law if it is to stand up for justice and the EU’s core values.
